NFL Week 9 Awards

Most Impressive Win – Tampa Bay Bucs – Nobody had the Tampa Bay Bucs winning this game, especially with rookie quarterback Josh Freeman making his first career start against a tough Green Bay secondary. Although his sub 50% completion percentage was rookie-like, his 3 touchdowns were not. Freeman showed tremendous poise, and the defense/special teams helped give him some much-needed support, as the Bucs finally got a win 38-28.

Best Overall Performance (Team) – Arizona Cardinals – Every few weeks, the old Kurt Warner (2001) shows up and puts up freakish numbers. This was one of those weeks, as Warner threw for 5 touchdowns and no picks. As for the defense, they did give up 3 touchdowns to Greg Olsen, but Cutler was throwing the ball all over the park. The Bears finished the game with 47 pass attempts, as opposed to just 12 rush attempts (3 were by Cutler). When it was all over, the Cards came away with a 20 point victory in Chicago.

Best Overall Performance (Player) – Larry Fitzgerald – Fitz put up monster numbers against the Bears, as he pulled in 9 balls for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. Without Boldin in the lineup, the Bears still weren’t able to stop Fitzgerald from torching them, which is a testament to how good this receiver truly is.

Breakout Performer – Josh Freeman – The rookie quarterback led a winless Bucs team to a win over a good Packers team. His 3 touchdowns propelled this team to victory, and he has Tampa Bay fans excited for the future.

Most Impressive Win – San Diego Chargers – Although I did expect the Chargers to win, I did not expect them to win the way that they did. Philip Rivers showed that he could be just as clutch as his ”buddy” Eli Manning, as he led the Chargers on a game-winning drive that gave the Lightning Bolts a huge 1-point victory in the Meadowlands. This is a big win for the Chargers’ playoff chances.

Best Overall Performance – Cincinnati Bengals – The Bengals completed the sweep of division rival Baltimore with a fantastic defensive effort. The Bengals gave up a Sunday-low 7 points to the Ravens, and Cedric Benson continued rumbling his way to another 100+ yard performance and a TD. With the win, the Bengals will remain in first place in the AFC North heading into Week 10.

Best Overall Performance (Player) – Randy Moss/Mike Sims-Walker – Each one of these receivers had 6 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown, so I couldn’t choose just one. They each were key factors in their team’s respective victories, and were nightmares for opposing secondaries on Sunday.

Breakout Performer – Chris Chambers – After being released by the Chargers during the week, Chambers was picked up by the Chiefs, and he was ready to perform right away. Chambers had 3 catches for 70 yards, including 2 TDs. One of those TDs went  for 54 yards. Chambers almost single-handedly brought the Chiefs back against the Jaguars, as the Chiefs fell just 3 points short of Jacksonville.
